American Elm, in Gray or Red variety, is one of the less well known species in our inventory. Its striking ‘cathedral’ grain pattern and subtle coloration make it a very beautiful addition to any woodworkers repertoire.
Seen here is 4/4 Gray Elm, two contrasting boards showing the differences one can find among wood of the same kind. It is softer than Walnut, harder than Butternut, and could occupy the aesthetic ground between them. It is not unusual to find 12′ lengths without a single knot, making it exceptional value in FAS or Select Grade form. We have over 800ft in stock.
